New Employee Retention Credit (ERC) Claims Processing Paused
Improper claims and continued aggressive promotors have caused the IRS to temporarily stop processing all new ERC claims through at least December 31, 2023.
The moratorium started on September 14, 2023. Please note that any claims received prior to September 14th will continue to be processed. The IRS is in the process of creating a special withdrawal option for taxpayers with pending claims, in cases where they believe upon further review that they may not have been eligible to claim the credit.
The pause will allow the IRS to work through the current backlog, scrutinize the claims filed for evidence of fraud, add more guidelines to prevent future abuse of the credit, and protect businesses from aggressive promotors convincing taxpayers that they qualify and filing false claims.
