Jean David Chery, CPA, serves as a Tax Partner at Anchin and brings more than 17 years of professional accounting experience to his role. He primarily supports clients in the architecture, engineering and construction sectors, leveraging his extensive knowledge to provide guidance on the tax implications of various business and personal matters. His expertise encompasses areas such as Section 460 construction tax accounting, mergers and acquisitions, research and development credits, and consulting services.
In addition to his client advisory work, Jean David oversees special tax and accounting projects, ensuring that complex assignments are managed effectively and efficiently. He is also dedicated to the development of his team, offering training and mentorship to tax staff. Jean David leads in-house educational sessions on topics related to the Construction and A&E industries, as well as updates on specific tax matters.
He is recognized for his expert consultation and instruction in subjects including percentage of completion accounting, accrual to cash conversions, Section 1031 (like-kind exchanges), Section 163(j) (business interest deduction limitation), Section 179, and Section 168(k) (bonus depreciation).
Jean David actively develops and assists clients in implementing tax strategies that reflect both current and forthcoming changes to tax laws. His proactive approach ensures that clients remain compliant and maximize available benefits in a shifting regulatory environment.
He is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). His leadership within the profession is highlighted by his former roles as Chair of the NYCPA Construction Committee, Director on the Board of the Nassau Chapter of the NYCPA, and joint Chairman of the association’s NextGen Committee.
Before joining Anchin, Jean David gained valuable experience as a tax consultant with a Big 4 public accounting firm and as a tax partner at a large regional public accounting firm. He is a Certified Public Accountant in New York and holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from CUNY York College.
