New York Employers Must Offer Paid Family Leave in 2018

Beginning in 2018 New York will join three other states that offer paid family leave, so that employees can more readily attend to matters such as the birth of a child or health issues.

You as an employer will not be responsible for paying employees during the family leave period, as this will become an added benefit under your existing, mandatory disability policy. The cost of the enhanced coverage can be recouped from employees via a regular payroll tax deduction.

Action Plan:

While employers will not incur any net cost, it is important to contact your private disability insurance carrier in order to secure the additional coverage. Further information is available using the link below:
