Fraud in Financial Statements: Understanding Financial Statements, the Potential for Manipulation, and Detection Techniques to Uncover Fraud and Internal Control Weaknesses that Help Perpetuate Fraud
Overview
The purpose of this course is to give the practicing attorney a better understanding of fraud in financial statements. This should improve the attorney’s understanding of the basic guidelines, the limitations, and the methods of manipulation. Overall, this will increase the attorney’s ability to identify clients’ legal needs and generally enhance the attorney’s ability to provide legal services to business clients.

- Learn the basics of financial statement preparation
- Read financial statements skeptically
- Analytical approaches used for fraud detection in financial statements
- Effective use of and communication with forensic accountants
Who Should Attend?
This course is geared toward attorneys who use financial statements as evidence or to develop case leads and strategies. This course would be useful to attorneys practicing in areas including but not limited to general corporate, tax, banking, finance, mergers and acquisitions, litigation, real estate, bankruptcy, matrimonial, estate and trust, and securities.
CLE Credit
This course has been approved in accordance with the requirements of the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board for a maximum of three CLE credit hours which can be applied toward the skills requirement and is approved for both transitional and non transitional credit.
