In the Community
At Anchin, we realize there is more to life than balance sheets and income statements. The partners and staff of Anchin are committed to giving back to the communities in which we live and work. By volunteering within our communities, we not only help those in need, but we help build teamwork and morale within the firm.
We offer our employees a variety of ways to volunteer their time and make a difference in the community. We welcome suggestions from our employees on how to become more involved with the community. Our goal is to make giving fun!
Many of these activities are co-ordinated by Anchin’s CARE Committee, Anchin’s team devoted to planning the Firm’s Community and Recreational Events. Staff members from all departments serve on this Committee and plan a full calendar of events.
Some of our most recent community efforts include:
Go Red for Women
It wouldn’t be February at Anchin without the annual participation in Go Red for Women Day to promote women’s heart health. To support this national program, a part of American Heart Month, Anchin employees “buy” the right to wear jeans for $5 on a designated Friday and Anchin matches the donation. Those who participate enjoy a reception in the office (that is not necessarily heart healthy!).
Adopt a Class
Nineteen Anchin team members provided a holiday party for six fifth grade classes at PS 8 in the Bronx. Class members played a variety of games, including “Are you smarter than a fifth grader?” and shared a pizza luncheon. The teachers reported that the kids talked about their holiday party for days after its conclusion.
The holiday party is just one event that Anchin provides for these classes that the Firm adopted. Our professionals donate their time and money to the classrooms. The Firm is also conducting a Field Day (all athletic events) for the students and the students are visiting our offices.
Food Bank for NYC
Throughout the year, Anchin’s team members donate their time to the Greater New York City Food Bank, where they volunteer as cooks, servers, and pot scrubbers. Participants readily admit that the work is hard, but they also say their time at the Food Bank is always a highlight of the year.
Regents Family Residence
Anchin employees were truly in the holiday spirit last December. Through the firm’s Toy Drive program, they helped make Christmas for the children at the Regents Family Residence.
Located in Manhattan, the Regents Family Residence provides transitional housing for 140 homeless families, offering comprehensive services to help them achieve independence and obtain permanent housing. The shelter offers services including counseling, housing assistance, life skills and parenting courses, childcare, and medical aid.
Other Events
Anchin holds a number of other annual charitable events throughout the year. Blood Drives on behalf of the New York Blood Center are held in our offices. In addition, the Firm fields teams for several charitable walks and runs, such as Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. A small team of professionals take part each year in the Avon 39.2 mile walk to raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness. Teams have dedicated days of labor to clean-up shelters, including interior and exterior painting and landscaping.
There is no shortage of community and recreational events at Anchin. On the lighter side, the Firm sponsors a volleyball tournament, a softball team, a semi-annual Texas Hold ‘em tournament, a Thanksgiving Pie Fest, an annual holiday party, and other recreational events, such as a summer fishing trip and the introduction of Game Show Night. The Firm has sponsored its own rendition of “Minute to Win It;” future game show nights will include our own versions of Family Feud as well as The Newlywed Game, played between colleagues. Anchin’s Bring Your Child to Work Day always attracts more than 50 children.
Though we work hard at Anchin, we also make time every year to have fun and to serve others. That’s the Anchin way.
